Late yesterday the Private Eye Writers of
America announced their Shamus Award nominees for the 2020 Shamus Awards.
There are three categories for awards given for private eye novels and short
stories first published in the United States in 2019. SMFS list members are
nominated in two of the three categories.
Best Private Eye
Short Story
“Sac-A-Lait Man” by O’Neil De Noux in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine: September/October 2019.
“The Dunes of Saulkrasti” by William Burton
McCormick in Ellery
Queen’s Mystery Magazine: September/October 20109. Mr. McCormick reports that this is his first
nomination.
“The
Fourteenth Floor” by Adam Meyer in the Crime
Travel anthology
edited by SMFS list member Barb Goffman.
Best Original Private Eye Paperback
Paid in Spades: A Pat Gallegher Novel by Richard Helms / Clay Stafford Books,
March 2019. Mr. Helms reports that this is his third nomination for works in
this series (Juicy Watuse was a finalist in 2003 and Wet
Debt also was a finalist in 2004) and his sixth nomination overall.
Additionally, a author
is not a member of the SMFS is up for the Shamus Award because of the The
Eyes of Texas: Private Eyes from the Panhandle to the Piney Woods compuled
and edited by SMFS list member Michael Bracken.
