SMFS list members won and placed third in the annual Writers’
Police Academy Golden Donut Short Story Contest. Using the photo prompt, contestants
entered stories that were exactly two hundred words. The stories are free to
read online at the WPA website.

The Refuge, won 2nd place in the 2023 Idaho Writers Guild writing contest. The

SMFS list member Elaine Viet’s short story, We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About, which appeared in The Great Filling Station Holdup: Crime Fiction Inspired by the Songs of Jimmy Buffett (editor Josh Pachter) is a finalist for a Royal Palm Literary Award. The winners will be announced tonight at the awards banquet during Florida WritersCon 2022. Video announcement of the finalists can be found on the website of the Florida Writers Association.
The Coffee Pot Book Club has awarded a Bronze Medal in the “Historical Young Adult” category to William Burton McCormick for his suspense novella, A Stranger from the Storm. Published by Mannison Press, LLC, the read is available in print and digital formats via the publisher, Amazon, and other vendors.
